If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch via the contact page. We are currently seeking tenors and basses in particular.
We meet every Monday evening from September to July with appropriate breaks for holidays. Rehearsals are from 7.15 pm to 9.15 pm at St Mary Magdalene Church in Whatlington. Members take turns on the tea rota which ensures that refreshments are provided during a short break halfway through the rehearsal.
Fees are £15 for every month that we rehearse, and our music is available to buy or borrow.
We aim to have 2-3 concerts in a season, including Christmas and early July and we occasionally perform at weddings and other celebratory events.
Our singers come from a wide range of musical backgrounds. Some, but by no means all, can read music, and many have experience across a variety of vocal groups. Rehearsals start with a short warm up followed by a practice which usually includes two or three pieces. We are always focused on improving our singing across a variety of genres and technical styles.
After a few rehearsals to settle in, new members are invited to take part in an appraisal with Liz and a member of our committee. This short session allows each new member to sing in private so that Liz can suggest areas for development and as a chance for the new member to have a conversation about their potential future participation in the choir.
“It shines through that it is a happy band of musicians who enjoy making music together…”Sarah Speller
